Notes from New York started life in 2003. Its purpose is to present the work of contemporary musical theatre composers in the West End. Initially focusing on the work of US composers, it has also explored avenues closer to home.

Following five presentations of material from the other side of the pond, the company presented Not(es) from New York, featuring the music of British composers Charles Miller and Grant Olding and created a unique seasonal show entitled Christmas in New York, which received its world premiere in December 2006, was revived in December 2007, again in December 2008 and will return for its fourth annual instalment in December 2009.

Last year it presented Notes in Heels featuring the work of a selection of female composers from New York and celebrated its fifth anniversary with a gala staging of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

In May 2009, Notes from New York received its first West End season at the Duchess Theatre, featuring its production of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years and a brand new production of Jonathan Larson’s tick... tick... BOOM!

It recently produced the fourth instalment of Christmas in New York at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

Paul Spicer
Paul has co-devised and co-directed all of the shows in the series. He recently played the role of Jamie in our production of The Last Five Years.

Julie Atherton
Julie has headlined and co-created all of the shows in the series. She recently played Cathy in our production of The Last Five Years.

Michael Bruce
Michael studied at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and became Resident Composer for Notes from New York after submitting the winning entry in the Notes for the Stage competition.

Neil Eckersley
Neil has produced and publicised all of the shows in the Notes from New York series to date, including its recent gala staging of The Last 5 Years and all editions of Christmas in New York.

David Randall
David has co-devised, co-directed and musically directed all of the Notes from New York shows to date and acted as Musical Supervisor for its recent gala staging of The Last 5 Years.
